On the western edge of the Galtee Mountains, the Combaun Loop ascends along the forest paths and roads of a commercial conifer plantation at various stages of growth and harvesting. On a clear day, spectacular views await of the mountains above, as well as the immensity of fields and woodlands below. Approximately 3.5km into your hike there is an optional shortcut. The full loop of 11km will bring you adjacent to the open mountain where An Teampailín / Temple Hill rises to the East. The Ballyhoura Mountains and the pasturelands of Limerick lie to the west and northwest. Slowly descend through the Combaun (White Hollow) Woods with the small peak of Benard and the rocky outcrop of Two Rocks rising to your left.
