Carlingford Greenway Walking Trail

Notification of Intention to Carry Out Renewal Works on Existing Omeath to Carlingford Greenway
Louth County Council wishes to inform you of our intention to carry out essential renewal works on the existing greenway. These works are necessary to maintain and improve the quality and safety of the greenway for all users.
The works are scheduled to begin on 9th September 2024 and are expected to last approximately 10 weeks. During this period, there will be rolling closures along sections of the greenway to facilitate the construction activities. While we will make every effort to minimize disruption, there may be temporary restrictions on access to certain areas as the works progress.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this time. Please rest assured that Louth County Council will work to complete the project as efficiently as possible, while ensuring that any impact the users of the greenway is kept to a minimum.

Lovely. Pity it doesn’t go all the way to Newry but that’s the ridiculous partition of Ireland for you.

A great trail. Beautiful views of the mountains and lough from the old railway line. Full of wildlife. Well sign posted throughout. A really nice walk. A bit mucky at the Omeath end where the gravel appears to have thinned out.

This is truly an amazing Irish trail, I have done many trails in different parts of Ireland and globally and for me and my family with two toddlers and a dog this ticks all the boxes. It has a gravel pathway mostly fenced and benches with mountains on both sides hugging Carlingford Lough all the way and throw in the history of it being a former railway line. I'm not doing it justice with this short paragraph but I would say it's a must visit for any walking enthusiast...enjoy
