OLYMPICS Egan Advances to Final

Ireland boxing captain Kenny Egan is through to the Olympic Light Heavyweight final after a convincing 10-3 victory over Britain's Tony Jeffries.

After a tied first round (1-1), the Dubliner took control and advanced to a 4-1 advantage in the second, securing a lead that was never be relinquished.

Further scores in round three (8-1) and four ensured a comprehensive 10-3 victory.

Egan will fight Zhang Xiaoping, who defeated Kazakhstan's Yerkebulan Shynaliyev (4-4) on count-back for gold in Beijing's Worker's Gymnasium on Sunday.

Earlier on in the day Paddy Barnes and Darren Sutherland confirmed their bronze medals positions after defeats to China's Shiming Zou (15-0) and Britain's James DeGale (10-3) respectively.
