ATHLETICS ISC Congratulates Derval O'Rourke

The Irish Sports Council Congratulates Derval O’Rourke on Her World Championship Success

The Irish Sports Council today congratulated Derval O’Rourke on her outstanding performance when winning gold in 60 meter-hurdles alt the World Indoor Championship in Moscow on Saturday (March 11). 

The performance entitles Derval O’Rourke to a performance incentive payment under the terms of the 2006 International Carding Scheme, representing 25% of the annual grant.

The Performance Incentive Payment was introduced in 2006 and Derval O’Rourke is the first athlete to qualify for the payment.  In 2006 she was awarded an International  grant of €12,000. Under the Scheme she has access to sports science and medicine support. She is also an athlete that benefits under the Athletics Association of Ireland Performance Plan. This plan is supported with €445,000 in funding by the Irish Sports Council in 2006. 

John Treacy, Chief Executive of the Irish Sports Council, commented: “Derval’s performance in Moscow was outstanding. It is great to see an Irish athlete deliver a big performance at a championship event.”
