GYMNASTICS Home Nations Triumph for Irish Gymnastics Future Star

01 Apr 2009

13 year old Daniel Fox returned home today after making history for Irish Gymnastics by taking the gold medal at the 2009 Celtic Cup in Scotland. The Celtic Cup is a junior Home Nations international competition for the Olympic disciplines of Men's & Women's Gymnastics that boasts to showcase the stars of the future from Scotland, Wales, N.Ireland & of course Ireland.

Fox, from Douglas Gymnastics Club in Cork, is already emerging as a front runner for Irish Gymnastics in relation to future Olympic qualification and is amassing the results behind him even at this early age.

In addition to Fox's outstanding result, strong performances were posted by the Irish boy's U-13 team taking the bronze medal & the Irish U-16 women's team placing 3rd along with Dublin based Emma Lunn from Excel Gymnastics Club placing 12th overall. These results are encouraging as both Irish Gymnastics and the sport continue to develop and grow in Ireland.
