Safeguarding 1 Online Refresher

Introduction

  1. This learning is designed at those who have previously attended the face to face Safeguarding workshop or equivalent.
  2. The learning from this course can be beneficial for all roles with regular responsibility for children, including parents; the content can be useful as a precursor to a face-to-face workshop.
  3. Please bookmark this address to your browser, you can then return to the online resource if you do not complete all four modules in one visit or at a later stage to access some of the resources.
  4. There are 4 different modules of differing length and detail covering the principles of best practice, an awareness of concerns of abuse and the reporting process.
  5. There is a digital test at the end of the four modules that you need to complete to be awarded the certificate. This requires a pass mark of 80% to be successful.
  6. You will be given the opportunity to read text and watch information clips and to check your knowledge before completing the digital test
  7. You can complete the full learning in one visit or you can return using a bookmark.
  8. Once you have completed the learning we encourage you to return to watch the clips and to read and use the supporting material.

Course Content

The learning is broken down into four modules. You must complete all 4 modules before receiving a certificate.

Best Practice: Examine best practice procedures including - codes of conduct within sport.

Understanding Safeguarding: Demonstrate an understanding of why safeguarding children and young people in sport is important.

Recognising the Signs: Demonstrate knowledge of the different categories of child abuse and identify the signs of abuse.

Responding and Reporting: Responding, recording, and reporting issues of poor practice or abuse.

Safeguarding courses can evoke uncomfortable feelings for some participants given the sensitive nature of the topic and participants need to care for themselves while completing this course.

How to start the elearning

  1. Read the Introduction to the Safeguarding 1 Online Refresher on the Sport Ireland website.
  2. Click the link to the refresher at the bottom of the page.
  3. Reads the Terms and Conditions and press “OK”.
  4. Read through the Introduction and Course Content.
  5. Once finished, select “Best Practice” and then “Good Practice Principles” under “Course Content” on the left-hand side of your screen.
  6. Go through each section, pressing “Next” every time you are finished with a page.
  7. Once you have completed each section, you will begin your digital test. You must secure a result of 80% or higher in order to pass.
  8. Once you have passed your test, select your organisation from the dropdown button on your screen.
  9. Press “Next”.
  10. Enter in the details on screen and press “Submit”.
  11. Do not refresh your screen when you have entered in your details.
  12. You will then be able to download your Safeguarding 1 online refresher certificate. This certificate will also be sent to your email address you provided.
  13. Save/print your certificate.
