World Health Organisation (WHO)
Global Health Observatory data repository
The Global Health Observatory is WHO's gateway to health-related statistics for more than 1000 indicators for its 194 Member States. Data are organized to monitor progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including health status indicators to monitor progress towards for the overall health goal, indicators to track equity in health indicators, and the indicators for the specific health and health-related targets of the SDGs.
UNESCO Physical Education and Sport
UNESCO is the United Nations’ lead agency for Physical Education and Sport (PES).
Assistance and guidance services are provided for governments, NGOs, and experts to debate the evolving challenges of physical education and sport. The organization also assists and advises Member States wishing to elaborate or strengthen their training system in physical education. And it offers its expertise in the design and implementation of development programmes in the domain of sport.

National Disability Authority (NDA)
The National Disability Authority (NDA), as the independent statutory body provides information and advice to the Government on policy and practice relevant to the lives of persons with disabilities.
Functions include research, developing and collaborating on the development of relevant statistics; assisting in the development of standards; developing codes of practice and monitoring the implementation of standards, codes and employment of persons with disabilities in the public service.
Cara
Cara is a national pan-disability sport organisation providing a collaborative and partnership platform to increase sport and physical activity opportunities for people with disabilities across Ireland.
European Health Interview Survey (EHIS)
The European Health Interview Survey (EHIS) consists of four modules on health status, health care use, health determinants and socio-economic background variables. EHIS targets the population aged at least 15 and living in private households. The four modules cover the following topics:
- Background variables on demography and socio-economic status such as sex, age, education, labour status, etc.
- Health status such as self-perceived health, chronic conditions, limitation in usual activities, disease specific morbidity, physical and sensory functional limitations, etc.
- Health care use such as hospitalisation, consultations, unmet needs, use of medicines, preventive actions, etc.
- Health determinants such as height and weight, consumption of fruits and vegetables, smoking, alcohol consumption, etc.
The European Health Interview Survey is run every 5 years.

The Irish Longitudinal Study on Ageing (TILDA)
The Irish Longitudinal Study on Ageing (TILDA) is a large-scale, nationally representative, longitudinal study on ageing in Ireland, the overarching aim of which is to make Ireland the best place in the world to grow old.
Health Behaviour in School-aged Children
Health Behaviour in School-aged Children (HSBC) is a cross-national research study conducted in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Office for Europe. HBSC collects data every four years on children and adolescent’s health and well-being, social environments and health behaviours. The findings are used at both national and international level to:
- gain new insight into young people’s health and well-being
- understand the social determinants of health
- inform policy and practice to improve young people’s lives
Growing Up in Ireland (GUI)
Growing Up in Ireland (GUI) is a Government-funded study of children being carried out jointly by the ESRI and Trinity College Dublin. The primary aim of the Growing Up in Ireland study is to inform Government policy in relation to children, young people and families.
Survey-Health, Ageing & Retirement in Europe
The Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe (SHARE) is a multidisciplinary and cross-national panel database of micro data on health, socio-economic status and social and family networks of about 140,000 individuals aged 50 or older. SHARE responds to a Communication by the European Commission calling to "examine the possibility of establishing, in co-operation with Member States, a European Longitudinal Ageing Survey".
