BOXING: Taylor Crowned World Champion

Katie Taylor retained her World lightweight title with a classy 13-2 win over Cheng Dong of China at the 5th AIBA Women's World Championships in Ningbo City, China on Saturday November 29.

Taylor won « the boxer of the tournament" award following he victory and impressive performances throughout the tournament.

The Bray woman, who is the current European and European Union champion, beat Annabella Farias of Argentina in November 2006 to claim her first World title in New Delhi, India.

Commentating directly after the bout, Irish team manager Anna Moore described Taylor's performance as absolutely brilliant.

She said: "Katie was 6-0 up at the end of the first round and there was no stopping her after that. It was a brilliant performance from her from start to finish and we are all absolutely thrilled."
