ANTI DOPING Irish Sport Anti Doping Disciplinary Panel Decision

The Irish Sports Council today (October 27, 2006) announced that the Irish Anti-Doping Disciplinary Panel has released its decision that has determined that Gareth Turnbull, an athlete affiliated to the Athletics Association of Ireland, did not commit an anti-doping violation and has not breached Article 2.1 of the Irish Anti-Doping Rules.

The Disciplinary Panel found a sample of Mr. Turnbull's urine collected during out-of-competition testing on the 30th day of September, 2005 contained a concentration of testosterone which was not consistent with normal endogenous production. Based on the evidence given to it, including the particular unusual scientific facts of this case, the Panel found that on the balance of probability, Mr Turnbull had convinced it that the abnormal level of testosterone was not due to doping.

There is a right for all parties, including WADA and the IAAF, to appeal this decision within 14 days of today's date. The matter is therefore sub judice. The hearing was held under Article 8 (Disciplinary Process) of the Irish Anti-Doping Rules.
