BOWLING European Championships

24 Apr 2008

The 13th European Road Bowling Championships will be held in Cork over the May Bank Holiday Weekend. The Championships will be officially opened in Cork on Thursday 1st May with a parade through the city culminating with an official flag raising ceremony at Cork City Hall.

Participants will be traveling from Germany, Italy and the Netherlands for the championships. Each team will compete in three events - German Lofting, Dutch Moors and Irish Road Bowling.

The most important event is the team event. Victory in this event is decided on the highest number of points accumulated over the three disciplines referred to earlier. However, for the Irish spectators, most interest will be in the Senior Men’s Singles. Hopes are high that the twenty year gap since the last Irish victory, Dan O’Halloran in 1988, can be bridged this year .
