Sport Ireland Yeats Tour of Sligo

14 Feb 2017

The first cycle event of this kind held in Sligo took place in 2009 and every year since then. All have been outstanding successes with over 2,500 cyclists taking part last year. It was fantastic to see so many people of all ages and cycling abilities out on their bikes and enjoying all that Sligo has to offer. So let’s build on this and make it an even better event in 2017!. This cycling tour will afford the people of Sligo and visitors to the County, the chance to enjoy stunning scenery ranging from majestic mountains to spectacular sea views and including picturesque country scenery and rural villages from the saddle of their bike.

The Sport Ireland Yeats Tour of Sligo will return to Sligo on the May Bank Holiday Weekend 2017.

The event will involve five different routes and will accommodate a wide range of cycling interests, including the leisure cyclist, family cycling and of course seasoned / experienced cyclists.

As part of the overall event, there are five different routes of varying degrees of difficulty.

The 2km Bike Trail is for children aged 6 to 8 years and will take place inside the grounds of the IT Sligo, children must be accompanied by an adult, adults may walk or cycle along side the participating child.

The 10km Hazelwood Spin for All should be accessible to everybody over the age of 9 years who does some regular cycling.

The 60km Lough Gill Circuit is a relatively flat route but includes a few gradual inclines and is suitable for people of a reasonably good fitness level and recreational cyclists.

The 100Km Innisfree Tour, will be suitable for those who have put in the training and would like that little bit more of a challenge than the 60Km.  The climbs are tougher than the 60km route but then the reward in terms of personal achievement and scenery on offer will be greater

However, the 160km Ox Mountain Challenge is only for the very experienced, the very fit, and those who relish a serious challenge. It requires lots of stamina and cycling experience – but the sense of achievement on completion will make it all worthwhile.
