Switzerland impressed on the opening day of the 27th Espirito Santo Trophy. They lead the Republic of Korea by one after shooting a combined total of 137 (-7).  Ireland’s trio of Leona Maguire (Slieve Russell), Olivia Mehaffey (Royal County Down Ladies) and Annabel Wilson (Lurgan) started with a steady performance and finished in 146 shots (+2). World number 1 amateur, Maguire carded an even par round of 72 and world number five, Mehaffey shot a two over 74. The youngest member of the team, Wilson struggled to get her round going as she carded a non-counting 80.

The Irish team began their round on the 10th and Maguire had a slow start as she carded a double bogey on her 8th hole. She bounced back with birdies on her 14th and 17th to finish the day level par.  The Royal County Down Ladies’ star turned in level par but dropped shots on her 10th and 18th to come home in two over.  15 year old Wilson, started positively and turned in one over, however a number of errors on the back nine resulted in a round of 80.

Ireland will be positive coming in to round two, knowing there are three rounds left and determined to impress.
