Silver for Orla Barry in Rio

15 Sep 2016

Orla Barry continued Ireland’s medal streak in Rio today as she picked up silver in the F57 discus final with a best throw of 30.06m.

Algeria's Nassima Saifi took the gold and Nigeria's Eucharia Iyiazi the bronze, as Barry added to the bronze which she picked up in the same event at the London Games.

Following today’s event, Sport Ireland Chairman, Kieran Mulvey, said: “On behalf of Sport Ireland I would like to congratulate Orla on her silver medal today.

“Orla showed real form going into the Rio Games with a silver at the 2015 World Championships in Doha and gold at the recent European Championships in Italy; it is no surprise to see Orla up there on the podium once again.

“Well done to Orla, her coaches and all at Paralympics Ireland on today’s medal win.”
