02 Aug 2016

Six of Ireland’s top U18 players will travel to Royal St Davids Golf Club with the hope of capturing the Girls British Open Amateur title. They will compete against a strong field of 144 players, holding handicaps of 4.4 and better.

Making their way over will be Valerie Clancy (Killarney), Elisa Corcoran (Grange), Mairead Martin (Killarney), Julie McCarthy (Forrest Little), Niamh McSherry (Lurgan) and Annabel Wilson (Lurgan).

Clancy, Martin, McCarthy McSherry and Wilson will all have competed in the Home International Matches at Conwy, Wales before they head slightly south to Royal St Davids. McCarthy, McSherry and Wilson all bowed out in the early match play stages in the 2015 championship but will be looking to progress further this year.

Julie McCarthy and Annabel Wilson have proved their inform performances as of late, as McCarthy has captured the Connacht Girls, Ulster Girls, Leinster Girls and Irish Girls Championships this season. Wilson on the other hand produced inspiring golf at the Girls’ European Team Championships and at the Junior British Open, where she finished 9th.

There will be two stroke play qualifying rounds over Tuesday 9th and Wednesday 10th, followed by match play for the 64 best qualifiers.
