New Irish Record Set By Thomas Barr In The 400m Hurdles
Ireland's Thomas Barr smashed his own Irish 400m Hurdles Record tonight in Rome recording a time of 48.65 seconds. The Waterford athlete was drawn in lane two in the high quality Diamond League Meeting with the world's best one lap hurdler athletes drawn in the outer lanes.
Conditions were perfect for the race as Barr scorched around the track and produced his infamous strong finish to grab fourth place in a new Irish record of 48.65 seconds. The time improved his own national mark of 48.90 seconds which he set twelve months ago in Genève. The race was won by Johnny Dutch (USA) in a time of 48.13 seconds.
The impressive performance by Barr comes in the same week he was announced on the Irish team for the World University Games in Gwangju, South Korea which take place from the 3rd - 14th July.
