Troy & Feehily Take Gold At The Glasgow Youth International
Alex Troy and Kim Feehily were the only Irish players to progress to the finals day of the Glasgow youth international. Despite being the only Irish left in the event the girls were on high spirits going into the last day of the event.
The semi-final's moved to the national badminton academy at Scotstoun in front of a full stadium of badminton fans. In the semi-final's Troy and Feehily caused a big upset beating the number one seeds Kiara Henry of England and Jeel Patel of India 21-19 21-18.
In the finals the Irish then faced the number two seeded pairing of Fiona Hallberg of Sweden and Alexandra Oprisan of England. The Irish were game point down in the first and came back to win the opening game 22-20. In the second game the match was evenly balanced all the way to the end. At 20 all the Irish took command of the match with some good serving from Feehily at the front and Troy dominating the backcourt with her power.
After securing a crucial lead at 21-20 Feehily turned to Troy and said one more point. Feehily got it right as the Irish closed out the match."This was a difficult match for the girls after a long weekend of play. I was delighted with the player's attitude in the final especially in the deciding points when the pressure was high. We have had a good team spirit all week and it is great to be coming home with a Gold medal" Daniel Magee team coach.
