Ireland's Fionnuala Britton Heads To Edinburgh As GloHealth Indoor Season Kicks Into Action
Fionnuala Britton (Kilcoole AC), Sara Treacy (Dunboyne AC) and Michelle Finn (Leevale AC) will represent team Europe this Saturday, 10th of January at the Great Edinburgh Cross Country. All three athletes were selected based on their strong performances at the European Cross Country Championships in Samokov, Bulgaria on the 14th of December. On that occasion Britton placed sixth, Treacy twelfth and Finn 23rd to combine to win team bronze for Ireland.
Gemma Steel of Great Britain who won the title in Samokov will also be in action in Edinburgh with the senior women's race scheduled for 14.02. There will be live coverage shown on BBC 1 from 13.00-14.30pm.
GloHealth Indoor Season Kicks Into Action!
The 2015 GloHealth Indoor Season kicks into action this weekend in AIT International Arena, Athlone. The season in full will incorporate 12 days of national competitions encompassing seven championships over the next three months. The pinnacle of the domestic season will be the GloHealth Senior Indoor Championships scheduled for the 21st and 22nd of February. While for many of our elite athletes the European Indoor Championships in Prague from the 6th-8th of March will be the major goal.
Round one of the Indoor League opens the curtain on the 2015 domestic indoor season this Sunday, 11th of January. Cork club Leevale AC dominated the inaugural event in 2014 winning both the men's and women's competition. They return in 2015 to defend their titles and will need to be close to their best with an increase of 40% on entries from 2014. In total 18 clubs have entered the men's competition with 11 expected to battle it out in the women's event.There will also be competition for guests in the individual events with athletes of the calibre of Phil Healy (Bandon AC) and Zac Irwin (Sligo AC) expected to compete.

Following on from the success of last year's live streamed indoor events which achieved the highest Irish viewership of any sport aired on Aertv. Athletics Ireland is delighted to announce that viewers from around the country and the world will be able to watch live coverage from the GloHealth Junior & U23 Championships on the 25th of January, the GloHealth AAI Open Games on the 1st of February and the GloHealth Juvenile Indoor Championships on the 22nd of March.
