Irish u19 Open

There was one gold, three Silvers and a bronze for the Irish at the u19 European Circuit event played in Dublin this weekend. The event was also the first event with the new 5x11 point scoring system trialled by the Badminton World Federation.

In the men's doubles, the English pairing of George Priestman and Nathan Rossiter took the gold medal with Irish/French pairing of Sam McKay & Louis Ducrot taking silver. In the women's singles, Swiss player Ronja Stern took the gold medal with Ireland's Rachael Darragh taking the silver. In the all Swiss women's doubles final, Ronja Stern & Simone von Rotz were victorious against their fellow compatriots, Celine Dagelet & Chantal von Rotz.

While the mixed was an all Irish affair with Paul Reynolds and Rachael Darragh winning in 5 sets against Norman Lau and Megan Bredin.

In the Irish U15 Open, Brian O'Mahony (Ire) took gold in the boy's singles in a tremendous three game match winning 22-20 in the third with Kyle Magee (Ire) taking silver. In the girl's singles Rachael Woods (Ire) was victorious against Clodagh Dunne (Ire) taking gold in another terrific final, winning 25-23 in the third game.

In the boys doubles, Des Duggan and Ben O'Shea (Ire) won gold against Mark Kinnerk and Brian O'Mahony (Ire), while in the girls doubles twins Rachel and Rebecca Woods (Ire) were gold medallists against Sarah Pingree and Alexandra Troy (Ire). In the mixed doubles Kyle Magee and Clodagh Dunne (Ire) won gold against Briain O'Mahony and Alexandra Troy (Ire).
Spectators were treated to games of a consistently high standard in all the finals.
