Badminton World Championships - Day 1
In the women singles Chloe Magee got the World Championships underway being first on court. Magee lost out to world number 24 Yip Pui Yin of Hong Kong in straight games.
In the mixed doubles Irish number ones Sam magee and Chloe Magee faced Hung Ling Chen and Wen Hsing Cheng of Chinese Taipei. The mixed pair is ranked 35 in the world and are climbing fast with Hung Ling Chen being former world number 5 with his last partner.
The Irish lost out in two games but put up a good fight losing the first game narrowly 24-22 and the second 21-17.
In the men singles Scott Evans was all set to face world number 14 Boonsak Ponsana of Thailand. Ponsana who is seeded 12 at this event has withdrawn giving Evans a walkover to the 2nd round where he faces David Obernosterer of Austria tomorrow (Tuesday).
