19 Aug 2014

Fiona Doyle has secured a place in the Women's 100m Breaststroke semi-final following this morning's heats at the LEN European Swimming Championships in Berlin, Germany.

Swimming in heat 3 of 5 Doyle swam a solid 1:08.77 to finish 4th in the heat. The Limerick native had done enough to progress in 10th overall but was disappointed with her time and will be looking to get closer to her Irish Record of 1:07.66 tonight to qualify for tomorrow's Final.

There was disappointment for Sycerika McMahon who just missed out on the semi-final in the 100m Breaststroke by .04 of a second. The 19 year old who trains and Texas A&M University swam a season's best 1:09.23 finishing 17th overall with the last semi-final place going to Italy's Giulia Di Ascentis in 1:09.19 in 16th.

Italian Ariana Castiglioni was the fastest qualifier for tonight's semi-final, which takes place at 5.38pm, in 1:07.50.

Brendan Hyland returned to the pool this morning for the 200m Freestyle heats. He swam a time of 1:53.96 just off his best of 1:53.47, but with two races now under his belt at his first senior European Championships he will be confident going into tomorrow's 200m Butterfly Heats, his main event.

A further press release will issue following tonight's 100m Breaststroke semi-final.
