Ireland's James Scully Secures 200m Freestyle Final Berth At Paralympic Swimming European Championships In Eindhoven
Ireland's James Scully has secured a place in tonight's final of the S5 200m Freestyle Final at the Paralympic Swimming European Championships in Eindhoven, the Netherlands.
Scully, who won Bronze in this event at the World Championships in Montreal, Canada in 2013, cruised to the final in a season's best swim of 2:54.07 just one second off his lifetime best of 2:53.03.
The National Aquatic Centre Club swimmer commented after the race "I'm delighted with that swim, it was definitely tough, but it's by a long way the fastest morning swim I've done. I feel there's more I can work on for the final."
Russia's Roman Zhdanoov was this morning's fastest qualifier in 2 minutes 51.68 seconds with Andrew Mullen of Great Britain, who has already won two Gold medals at these championships, second in 2:52.04. European Record holder Sebastien Rodriguez of Spain was 4th in 3:00.38.
Ellen Keane will join Scully in action this evening as she competes in the S9 200m Individual Medley Final.
