Ireland's Ellen Keane Fourth In 100m Breaststroke Final At Paralympic Swimming European Championships In Eindhoven
Ireland's Ellen Keane has finished fourth in the Final of the SB9 100m Breaststroke at the Paralympic Swimming European Championships in Eindhoven this morning.
The eighteen year old, who completed her Leaving Certificate this year, swam a season's best of 1:23.37 in the final to place fourth overall behind bronze medallist Nina Ryabova of Russia in 1:20.57.The Netherlands Chantalle Zijderveld won Gold in a new European Record of 1:17.39.
Speaking after the race Keane commented "I'm really happy to swim a season's best in the Breaststroke, with re-classification** in the event I wasn't expecting a medal so it was great to place fourth. I'm now looking forward to swimming the 100m Freestyle this evening. I swam a great PB (personal best) in the 50m on Monday so I'm excited to see what I can do in the 100m."
Competition continues for the Irish tonight with Keane competing again, this time in the S9 100m Freestyle Final at 4.21pm. She is the only Irish swimmer in action today. Tomorrow is a rest day for the Irish with Scully and Keane the two back in the pool on Friday.
