National Rowing Championships

The draw for the National Rowing Championships took place at 7pm tonight at The National Rowing Centre, Cork. With a record number of crews, the event will be the biggest to date with over 875 crews racing over three days, from 11th - 13th July 2014.

More than 52 Clubs will travel from the four Provinces to the National Rowing Centre, Cork. The coveted M8+ will be contested by Gra Mhaol/NUIG, DUBC and UCDBC/OCBC. With over 13 entries in the Men's scull and 11 entries in the Women's scull, these will be very exciting race's to watch with many of these competitors featuring on the High Performance Team. While the Women's 8+ will be a battle between NUIG/Cork, UCDBC and DULBC.

A surge in entries particularly in Club level is seen due to the success of the newly established points systems launched by Rowing Ireland.

Irish rowing has seen a remarkable growth in recent years and thus there has been substantial growth in junior rowing. Therefore, some of the best clashes will be in junior events. The surge in junior rowing is a sign of great things to come in the years ahead. The J15 scull has 57 scullers competing, however, this will be run over a number of finals. Whereas the J16 scull will have 52 competitors taking part for only one coveted prize.

The Masters men's scull with over 13 competitors, shows the sport still remains strong for those who one time may have competed in the J15 and J16 sculls.
The three day event is seen by many on the Irish Rowing scene as the pinnacle of their arduous training and it will prove to be a very exciting and action packed weekend for crews, coaches and spectators.
