Aileen Reid Heads Commonwealth Games Challenge
With little more than six weeks before the action begins at the Commonwealth Games the Commonwealth Games Council has revealed its largest ever team, with a total of 117 local athletes participating across 14 sports, during 11 days of world class competition at Glasgow 2014.
Triathlon Ireland has successfully qualified a full allocation of 6 athletes, 3 male and 3 females for the individual race. Triathlon Ireland will also have a team of 4 competing in the team relay event comprised of 2 males and 2 females with 2 reserve athletes in place.
Technical Director Tommy Evans was pleased with the result. "We have a really strong team of Northern Irish athletes who have great potential in both the individual and team relay races."
"Aileen Reid is currently our top ranked athlete and has been progressing well throughout the early season World Series races. She is coming into some good form at just the right time."
"It's also a great opportunity for some of our younger athletes to showcase their talents on the world stage."
The Elite Women's race will take place on Thursday the 24th of July starting at 11am while the Elite Men's race will start at 3pm, both raced over the standard distance of 1500m swim, 40km bike and 10km run.
The team relay race will take place on Saturday the 26th of July starting at 12:30. Both events will take place in Glasgow's Strathclyde Country Park.
