Top Irish Athletes Continue Their Preparations For The European Track & Field Championship In Zurich

A number of Ireland's top track and field athletes will race in grand prix races across Europe this weekend as they continue their preparations for the European Track and Field Championships in Zurich in August.

Paul Robinson (St Coca's AC) is first off as he competes in the IAAF Diamond League Meeting this evening (June 5th) in Rome. Robinson goes in a high class 1500m race which includes Asbel Kiprop of Kenya who has run 3.29.18 already this year.

On Sunday Irish Indoor 800m record holder Mark English (UCD AC) is set to compete in the 800m at the IAAF World Challenge Meeting in Hengelo. English began his 2014 outdoor season with an impressive victory over 800m in Oordegem Belgium on Saturday, 31st of May.

Rose Anne Galligan (Newbridge AC) will compete in the Memorial Josefa Odlozila Grand Prix in Prague on Monday 9th of June. Galligan set her season's best time of 2.02.07 at the BMC meet in Manchester last Saturday.

The Northern Ireland and Ulster Senior Championships take place at the Mary Peters Track in Belfast on Saturday 7th June with many of Ireland's top athletes set to feature including: Amy Foster (City of Lisburn AC), Jason Harvey (Crusaders AC), Ben Reynolds (North Down AC), Phil Healy (Bandon AC) and Jessie Barr (Ferrybank AC) - Please find attached the entry list for the Ulster Senior Championships

The full Irish Team for the European championships will be announced on the 21st of July at a Press Conference after the National Track and Field Championships (19th/20th). There is an expectation that this team will be made up of over 25 athletes, making it one of the largest Irish teams ever to compete at the championships.
