Doyle and Murphy Through To Semi Finals in Herning
Ireland's Fiona Doyle and Barry Murphy have made it through to semi-finals on the first day of swimming at the European Short Course Swimming Championships in Herning, Denmark.
Fiona Doyle was the first Irish swimmer in action this morning in the 50m Breaststroke, she put in a solid swim of 30.80 to finish 5th in her heat and 10th overall securing her a semi-final spot this evening.
Speaking after the race Doyle said "It was a strong morning swim, it felt fast and was right on my best time but I know I can do better, I'm looking forward to the semis and final later".
Both the semi-final and final of the 50m Breaststroke will take place this evening.
London 2012 Olympian Barry Murphy will also be in semi-final action this evening. Murphy posted a time of 59.18 to progress from the heats in 20th place overall.
Andrew Meegan continued his good form from Irish Nationals with a personal best swim of 3:49.74 in the 400m Freestyle to finish 4th in his heat.
It was a busy morning for Brendan Hyland and Bethany Carson with both swimming two events each. Hyland was 38th overall in the 200m Individual Medley with a time of 2:04.94 and just 15 minutes later was 5th in his heat of the 100m Butterfly touching in 54.79.
Carson swam a personal best time of 56.14 in the 100m Freestyle following a 28th place overall finish in the 200m Individual Medley where she clocked 2:15.64. Shani Stallard finished just behind Carson in the 200m Individual Medley with a time of 2:16.73.
