Magee in to Semi
Ireland's Chloe Magee won a tough three set match over French number one Vignes Warren. After losing the first set Magee fought back winning the 3rd set 21-18.Magee now faces Chinese American Beiwan.Last year's women's champion Line Kjaersfeldt of Denmark who beat Chloe Magee in the final is also out. She lost a see-saw quarter-final match to Beiwen Zhang America.
Scott Evans bid to retain the men's singels title at the Carlton Irish Badminton Open ended this morning in Baldoyle when he lost in the quarter-finals against Lukas Schmidt of Germany.
In a closely-fought match that went to three sets, Evans had started brightly, winning the opener 21-16. Schmidt then fought his way back into the match and judges edged it in the second, winning 21-19. In the tie-breaker, advantage again swung from one side of the net to the other before Schmidt's consistency paid off and he closed it out at 21-19.
He now faces second seed Misbun Ramdan Mohmed Misbun of Malaysia who had a comfortable victory over Emil Holst of Denmark, in tonight's (Fri) semi-finals.
In other matches, the Spaniard Pablo Abian, who put out top seed Ville Lang of Finland yesterday, continued to progress beating seventh seed Niluka Karunaratne of Sri Lanka. In the semi-finals he will play Dierte Domke of Germany who beat Dutch player Erick Meijs.
Ireland's Men's pairing of Dolan and Magee lost in three close sets to German opponents. While in the mixed Chloe and Sam Magee lost to tough Dutch opponents.
