IRISH DUO FINISH 7th IN SECOND EUROPEAN FINAL OF WEEKEND
Fleming and Maloney seventh in K2 500 metre final on Sunday
Also seventh in K2 1000 metre final on Saturday

Neil Fleming and Brendan Maloney finished 7th in the European K2 500 meter Flatwater Canoe Final in Pontevedra, Galicia, Spain, today.
The race was won by Rauhe & Weiskotter of Germany in a time of 1 minute 33, with the Irish crew in 7th in a time of 1: 37.
Two championship finals and an Irish record represent an excellent week's work for Fleming and Maloney. whose main target for the year is the World Championships in Duisberg, Germany in August, also the main Olympic qualifier.
Notes:
Fleming and Maloney made their breakthrough in 2006 by finishing 11th at the World Championships. This entitled them to a Performance Incentive Payment under the Irish Sports Council's International Carding Scheme.
Brendan, 27, from Malahide is studying Sports Science in DCU. Neil, 23, from Celbridge, Co Kildare, is studying physiology in Trinity College Dublin. Neil is a former world junior canoe marathon .
The crew pioneers Irish canoeing at world level in this event.
