Crusaders AC & Dundrum South Dublin AC win the 2013 Woodie's DIY National League Final

Crusaders AC and Dundrum South Dublin AC won the men's and women's titles today at the 2013 Woodie's DIY National Track and Field League Final. For once in the athletic calendar the ethos of event was on the club performance and not that of the individual athlete. Ireland's best club athletes put on a tremendous display of track and field action for the large crowd gathered in Tullamore Harriers stadium.

Crusaders had came agonisingly close to winning the title last year and gained revenge this year by winning the premier men's title with a score of 130.5. Leevale men's team finished second with 117 points with defending champions Clonliffe Harriers back in third on 94 points.

Defending champions Dundrum South Dublin AC were once again too strong for the opposition as they won the women's title with a score of 115 points. Leevale were once again second on 109 points and Dublin club Raheny Shamrock finished third with 92 points.

Kildare County won the division one title with a score of 130.5 points and Wexford County won the women's equivalent with a score of 107.5 points.

Although today's event was all about the club performance there was a number of standout individual performances.

In one of the highest qualify races of the day World Championship representative Brian Gregan (Clonliffe Harriers AC) won the 400m from national champion Brian Murphy (Crusaders AC). Gregan had a slight advantage over Murphy coming down the finishing straight and held on for the victory in a time of 47.56 with Murphy just behind with a time of 47.83.

World Youth representative David Cussen (Bandon AC) was in fantastic form as he won the division one high jump in a new personal best of 2.13m. For good measure he won the long jump as well with a leap of 7.03m.

Steven Colvert (Crusaders AC) was on the double as he won the premier men's 100m in 10.61 and 200m in 20.92 seconds. Crusaders teammate Conor McCullough was also on the double as he claimed victory in the hammer 67.80m and Discus 47.92m. European U23 representative Jason Harvey also of Crusaders eased to victory in the 400m hurdles in a time of 53.18 seconds.

Irish heptathlon record holder Kelly Proper (Ferrybank AC) won the premier women's long jump with a leap of 6.25m and also claimed maximum points in the 100m hurdles in a time of 14.37 seconds. Niamh Murphy (Leevale AC) threw a personal best in the shot putt of 39.70m to

Mark Hanrahan (Leevale AC) made a return to action as he won the premier men's 5,000m in a time of 14.46.20

Michael Dyer (North Down AC) took the lead from the gun and led all the way to win the Premier 1,500m in 3:56.39 from Mark Kenneally (Clonliffe Harriers) who was second in 3:58.14. Michelle Finn (Leevale AC) won the Premier women's 1,500m in 4:33.43.

Siofra Cleirigh Buttner (Dundrum South Dublin), the Irish junior record holder, was surprisingly beaten by EYOF 800m champion Louise Shanahan (Leevale AC). Shanahan won in 2:14.13 to the Dublin girl's 2:14.32.
Jennifer Carey (Dundrum South Dublin AC) won the Premier 200m in 24.30.
