Three from Three for Irish Athletes at the World University Games

The Athletics programme at the 2013 World University Games got underway today in hot sunshine in Kazan, Ireland. Brian Gregan (DCU), Ciara Everard (UCD) and Amy Foster (UUJ) were the Irish representatives in Kazan and all three athletes comfortable qualified for their respective semi-finals.

First on track for Team Ireland at just before 07.00 Irish time was Brian Gregan in the fifth heat of the men's 400m. Gregan ran very well and looked comfortable while winning his heat in a time of 46.68, the second fastest overall qualifier for tomorrow's semi finals.

Everard was next of the Irish in action as she recorded a new outdoor personal best of 2:04.34 in the heats of the 800m to finish in third place. Everard led for the majority of the race and it was only in the last 100m that she lost the lead. Everard moves onto the semi-finals of the 800m scheduled for 5.15 tomorrow.

Foster was the last of the three athletes in action and she didn't disappoint as she stormed to second place in heat six of the women's 100m. Foster blasted from the blocks to record a time of 11.60 to easily secure a place in the women's 100m semi-finals.

The competition continues tomorrow with Ireland's Tomas Cotter going in the 3,000m steeplechase at 8.25am Irish time.
