Three Irish Records at Cork City Sports

03 Jul 2013

It was an evening of Irish records and a few false starts at the 62nd Cork City Sports which took place at the Cork Institute of Technology.

Robert Heffernan (Togher A.C) delighted the home crowd with fabulous solo performance in the men's 3000 metres race walk where he set an Irish record time of 11:11.9 which also qualified as a World over 35 masters' record. There was a personal best time too in the same event for Brendan Boyce (Letterkenny A.C) who finished third in 11:36.98. This was another excellent performance by Boyce who is coached by Robert Heffernan. Colin Griffin (Ballinamore A.C) finished fourth in 11:51.39.

There was a stirring performance too by Tomas Barr (Ferrybank A.C) who set an Irish under 23 record when winning the 400m hurdles in 50.00 seconds-a time that would have been event better had he not hit the last hurdle.

Sarah Lavin (Emerald A.C) was in sparkling form too in the women's 100 metres hurdles where she set an Irish junior record time of 13.36 seconds in fourth place behind race winner Kristi Castlin of the USA who posted 12.84 seconds.
