Irish Sports Council Welcomes Additional Capital Investment in Sport
Minister O’Donoghue Announces Additional €14.3 million under Sports Capital Programme

The Irish Sports Council today (December 8, 2006) welcomed the announcement of an additional €14.3 million by the Minister for Sport under the Sports Capital Programme.
John O'Donoghue, T.D., Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism, announced the package of additional funding towards the development of a number of key strategic national and regional sports facilities, including Croke Park and the national rowing Centre at Iniscarra. In addition funding is allocated to enhance the quality and range of equipment available to national governing bodies, including Basketball Ireland, Athletics Ireland, and the Irish Hockey Association, to assist in increasing participation in those sports further.
John Treacy, Chief Executive of the Irish Sports Council, stated: “This investment will further build the sports infrastructure in Ireland and is a great end to a year of significant investment in sport by the Government. In particular we welcome the investment in the participation programmes of key sports and are confident it will assist them in the key strategic goal of creating more opportunities in sport for all sectors of the community”.
