8 Athletes Pre-Selected for the European Indoor Championships

The closing date for athletes seeking selection for the European Indoor Track and Field Championships in Gothenburg, Sweden is this Sunday 24th of February. Athletics Ireland have pre-selected eight athletes for the championships; Brian Gregan (Clonliffe Harriers AC), Ciaran O'Lionaird (Leevale AC), Derval O'Rourke (Leevale AC), Fionnuala Britton (Kilcoole AC), Ciara Everard (UCD AC), Amy Foster (City of Lisburn AC), David McCarthy (West Waterford AC) and Tori Pena (Finn Valley AC). There are two further athletes John Travers (1500m & 3000m) and Stephen Scullion (3,000m) who have achieved the required standards for the Europeans. In the events where more than three athletes have achieved the set standard and to allow for further athletes to achieve qualifying standards, Athletics Ireland will wait until the close of the qualification period this Sunday 24th of February before making the final team selection.

As well, with the performance standards achieved by these athletes I have confidence that our team selected for the 2013 European Indoor Championships will be very competitive."
