The Welcome Arrival of the Alter G

07 Jan 2013
The Irish Institute of Sport welcomes the Alter G P200 Anti-Gravity Treadmill
The first of it's kind in the South of Ireland the P200 Anti Gravity Treadmill allows athletes to rehabilitate from surgery or train through injury, without pain.

Built using NASA Differential Air Pressure (DAP) technology, this medical and performance device has proven extremely successful for both rehabilitation and training for performance.

The Alter G's unweighting technology reduces the impact of walking or running. Once you zip yourself into the air chamber with specialised neoprene shorts, a calibration takes place and the precise unweighting is achieved by using air in the pressure-controlled chamber which inflates and lifts the user to his or her desired weight-bearing percentage.

Megan Kiely, Athletics Ireland Junior 400mH, is using the Alter G to supplement rehabilitation post injury

Weight sensors in the treadmill allow the Alter G to be operated at anywhere from 20-100% of the athlete's body weight.  The implications of running impact free are obvious to anyone suffering from the lower limb stresses of high volume training.

Primarily the Alter G treadmills are used for rehabilitation from injury and post surgery to facilitate early weight bearing at a reduced body weight, protecting the healing tissue, while maintaining normal running or walking mechanics.

Increasingly though, the Alter G is being utilised for training, with high mileage athletes incorporating treadmill sessions at reduced body weight.

The Alter G can also be utilised for reverse running, incline and decline running, as well as over-speed training (max speed P200 27km/hour).
