Showjumping in Croke Park Precedes Horse Sport Ireland Awards

17 Dec 2012

Horse Sport Ireland will celebrate an outstanding equestrian year with a recognition awards ceremony in Croke Park today (Monday). The awards will be presented by Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport Leo Varadkar TD.

As part of the event Olympic medallist Cian O'Connor will re-live his medal winning round in London by jumping a fence on the pitch at Croke Park.

This will be first time that show jumping or equestrian sport of any kind has ever taken place in Croke Park.

The ceremony will see awards presented to O'Connor, Ireland's Paralympic bronze medal equestrian team, and double individual Paralympic medallist Helen Kearney.

Ireland's Eventing team, which finished fifth at the Olympic Games, will also be honoured, along with the winners of Ireland's seven European underage medals.

Also receiving an award will be the senior Irish show jumping team which won both the Hickstead and Dublin (Aga Khan) Nations' Cups in 2012.

Modern Pentathlon will also feature, with Natalya Coyle being honoured for her ninth place in the Olympics and Arthur Lanigan-O'Keeffe for his World junior bronze medal.
