16 Dec 2012

Barry Murphy has finished 10th overall in the 50m Breaststroke semi-final at the World Short Course Swimming Championships in Istanbul, Turkey. Murphy's time of 26.82 was slower than his morning heat time of 26.76. The London Olympian would have needed to swim 26.71 to make tomorrow's final.

Solvenia's Damir Dugonjic was the fastest qualifier out of the semi-final in 26.27 whilst Brazil's Felipe Lima secured the final spot in 26.71.

Tonight's semi-final concludes Murphy's action at the World Short Course Championships. Following his move back to Dublin to train at the National Aquatic Centre High Performance Centre Murphy has been in great form making two World semi-finals (50m Fly & 50m Breaststroke) as well as two European semi-finals (50m Fly & 50m Breaststroke) and a 6th place final (50m Breaststroke) finish in the last three weeks, breaking a number of Irish Records along the way.

Swimming's next major Senior International meet will be the World Long Course Championships in Barcelona in July 2013.
