Irish Para Badminton Championships

This weekend the Irish Para Badminton Championships too place in Lisburn Rackets Club, Lisburn.

With Badminton on the list of sports for the 2020 Paralympics the 2012 Para event took on added impetus.

The Irish 4 Nations Para-Championships took place over Saturday 17th & Sunday 18th November Every competitor gave it their all both days with a high standard of badminton throughout. There were 4 categories with Dwarfs, Standing, Wheelchair and LD's A most notable comment was made that although the competition was fierce, the mutual respect and genuine sportsmanship among the competitors was highly commendable.

Ireland's own World and European champion Niall McVeigh won the Men's singles in his category in a thrilling 3 set encounter against Andrew Martin from Scotland. Having lost the first set, Niall had to draw on all his experience, along with some assistance from Coach Daniel Magee to take the remaining 2 sets. Rachel Choong won the Women's.

Bobby Griffin won the Men's singles in his category along with 2 more medals with Martin Rooke being a triple winner on finals day also congratulations to all the competitors and great thanks to William Martin for his excellent work on Match Control.
