Ireland's Siobhan Byrne loses out to Italian at Fencing World Championships

St.Petersburg, Russia

Ireland's leading fencer Siobhan Byrne began her challenge at the World Championships in St.Petersburg, Russia on Friday, in her event; the Sabre weapon.

The competition began with the pool stage with 128 fencers and Byrne, on a fencing scholarship in Ohio State University won three of her six pool bouts advancing to the last 64 and the direct elimination phase.

Byrne (23) lost out 15-14 to the number 12 seed; Bianco from Italy in the round of 64 on Saturday to exit the Championships.
