National Aquatic Centre to host unique new Swimming Pathway

25 Oct 2012

From November 2012 the National Aquatic Centre (NAC) in partnership with Swim Ireland (the National Governing Body for the aquatic disciplines in Ireland) and the NAC Swim Club, are delighted to introduce a new Swimming Pathway.

Several programmes currently operating out of the NAC are joining together to provide a clear and cohesive pathway that can take a child right from entry level beginner all the way to International athlete!

The Pathways mission is to deliver a programme of the highest calibre, right from participation in the Academy continuing on through the NAC Swim Club and culminating in Swim Ireland's Performance Squad with athletes representing their country at the International level!

The introduction of the pathway at the NAC provides a unique opportunity for the young people involved to not only receive excellent instruction in the Academy but also to remain part of a pathway that can keep them engaged for the long term and offer the environment where success at the highest level is nurtured and developed.

David Conway, the Director of Operations of the NAC, said "At the National Aquatic Centre we provide a world class environment for Aquatics. Pre-London 2012 we had 190 aquatics athletes use the National Aquatics Centre as their chosen training venue. It is only proper that we have a world class Swimming Structure in the Centre. We are delighted to be partners in providing the same opportunity to all our participants in the new swimming Pathway launched with Swim Ireland and the NAC swim club".

Alec Colvin, Chairman of the NAC Swim Club, said "The NAC Swim Club is delighted as the resident swim team in the National Aquatic Centre, to now join with the NAC Academy levels classes and the Swim Ireland Performance Centre to assist in the long term athlete development programme. Under the guidance of our experienced coaches the club accepts the responsibility of continuing the progress of swimmers having successfully completed the NAC Academy level 8 course"

Swim Ireland National Performance Director Peter Banks also commented "It's great to be involved with the development of a streamlined pathway in the National Aquatic Centre. This pathway will provide a lot of depth within the Swim Ireland Performance Programme in years to come".
