Clare Coaching Forum

18 Oct 2012

An exciting new initiative has been launched by Clare Sports Partnership, in conjunction with Clare GAA, Clare District Soccer League, Munster Rugby, Clare Camogie, Clare Ladies Football, Clare Athletics and Coaching Ireland.

The Clare Coaching Forum aims to promote ancillary coaching opportunities for all who are involved in coaching and sports leadership in County Clare. John Sweeney, co-ordinator of the Sports Partnership said:

'We are delighted to be able to work so closely with the sports organisations in the county in order to assist in the education of their coaches. The forum will mean that there is a structured and sustainable model for continuing coach education in Clare for the future. All training initiatives that are on the calendar this year are there due to a request from different coaches on the ground to the Sports Partnership. During this first year, we will be asking the members that join the forum to design the training for the following year. Through time, the forum will become an integral part of sport in Clare, and a model for good practice across the country. '

The Clare Coaching Forum is open to any coach / manager, qualified or not, to join. From November to June, there will be different coaching related initiatives, from code of ethics to strength and conditioning to psychology. The workshops have been chosen and designed, in consultation with the development officer of each sport, to assist coaches in maintaining the high standards that they already promote, and to compliment the coaching awards that the individuals may have been awarded through their particular sport.

Speaking on the importance of the forum, Michael McGeehin Director of Coaching Ireland said: 'I would like to congratulate Clare Sports Partnership on this great initiative. The forum will add great value to the coaching structures in the county and most importantly enhance the knowledge, skills and confidence in coaches in Clare.'
