GAA Camogie Star, Ursula Jacob, announced as Sportswoman of the Month

Wexford Camogie Captain, Ursula Jacob has today been named The Irish Times / Irish Sports Council 'Sportswoman of the Month' for September. This is following her outstanding performance at this year's All-Ireland Senior Camogie final in Croke Park.

Jacobs, 27-year-old from Oulart-The Ballagh club inspired her Wexford team-mates to a fantastic three in-a-row victory over Cork in the All-Ireland Senior Camogie final where Jacobs bagged 2-07 in the 3-13 to 3-06 win.

Jacob is a natural talent with both her parents having played for the county, her father Mick a hurling All-Star and her mother Breda making it to the 1972 camogie final. Her sister Helena is also on the Wexford camogie panel and brothers Michael and Rory are both senior county hurlers.

The accolade of winning the Irish Times/Irish Sports Council 'Sportswoman of the Month' means Ursula is now in contention for the prestigious title of 'Sportswoman of the Year' for the second time in her career.

Established in 2004, the aim of the Sportswoman of the Year awards is to recognize the abilities and achievements of women in Irish sports. The awards run over a 12 month period, with the judges selecting a winner each month for her ability to excel at sport. From the 12 monthly winners, the overall Sportswoman of the Year is selected and announced in December. The winner is decided by a judging panel, which is represented by individuals from The Irish Times, RTة, and the Evening Herald.
