Magee goes out in London

Ireland's Chloe Magee has missed out on a place in the last 16 of the women's singles at the London Olympics after losing to Pi Honyang of France.

Magee clinched the first set 21-16 but lost the next two sets 21-18, 21-14 to lose by two sets to one and crash out of the competition.

Former Chinese national team player Pi is ranked among the top 10 players in the world and won a bronze medal at the 2009 World Championships.

Magee, 23, began her campaign with an impressive straight sets win over Egypt's Hosny in her opening match Sunday.

Magee commented "It was disappointing not to take the match after such a great start. I really had chances in the second and third sets and I just made some unnecessary errors. Training has been great that past months and I would like to thank all involved."

Scott Evans lost an exciting opening men's singles match against the Gold medal favourite and defending champion Lin Dan from China. Evans lost 21-8 21-14 but the scores did not pay tribute to the quality and intensity of the match.

Both players are looking forward to a few day rest after a long season and supporting the rest of the Irish team around the venues in London.
