The Road is an exhibition that takes us into the lives of the elite high performance athletes of the Institute of Sport. And with days until the curtain is raised on the London Olympic, offers an insight into how some of our athletes got there.

The Road' by Patrick Bolger was commissioned by the Nationals Sports Campus under the percentage of Art Scheme for the Irish Institute of Sports Building. Bolger is a photographer based in Dublin. He worked as a sports photographer from 1996 - 2005, during which time he covered many international sporting events including the Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004 Olympic Games. In 2000 he published the book 'Running to Stand Still' documenting Sonia O'Sullivan's journey to her Olympic Silver Medal. In 2005 he left sports photography and set up his own photographic business in Dublin. In recent years he has moved into film-making and in 2011 his first short documentary film 'The Fisherman' (in conjunction with Areaman Productions) was completed with funding from the IFB Reality Bites scheme. 'The Road' is his first solo photographic exhibition.
