Another Irish Record for Hyland

Tallaght's Brendan Hyland set his seventh Irish Record in just 3 days as he set a new standard for junior Irish swimmers in the 100m Butterfly. The record which stood at 55.66 has been held by Conor Leaney since 2008, Hyland's time of 55.65 was good enough for the record books but not enough to progress to the semi-final, he finished in 19th place overall.


Curtis Coulter set a new personal best in this morning's heats of the 200m Freestyle event finishing in 1:52.52, putting him in 13th place heading into the evening semi-final. The Ards youngster bettered this time in the semi-final clocking 1:52.23 and finished in 10th place.


The morning heats session also saw personal bests for Clodagh Flood (27.87) in the 50m Freestyle and David Prendergast (27.41) in the 50m Backstroke.


In the final day of competition tomorrow, another Irish Relay team will take to the blocks. The Irish boys have already demolished two Junior Relay Records this week. The current 4x100m Medley Team Relay Junior record currently stands at 4:01.63 and was set a Junior Europeans in 2011.


In Montreal, Team Ireland 2012 Member Barry Murphy is competing at the Canada Cup, Murphy competed in the 50m Butterfly today finishing in 24.50 just .01 of a second off the Irish Senior Record, he will swim in the final tonight.
