Loughnane Finishes Second in Milan

Olive Loughnane (Loughrea AC) finished a remarkable second place at the IAAF Permit Race Walking Meet in Milan, Italy on Sunday 17th of June. Loughnane completed the course in a time of 91.33; conditions were brutally hot as the temperature reached 30 degrees Celsius. Loughnane stuck to her task and battled all the way to the line to secure a podium position.


Also competing over the weekend was Irish record holder Derval O'Rourke (Leevale AC) who ran 13.09 to place second at a grand prix event in Ried, Austria. This was a seasonal best performance by O'Rourke as she continues her preparations towards the London Olympics. Brian Gregan (Clonliffe Harriers AC) was also in action at the same meet and convincingly won the 400m in a time of 46.01, which was a new stadium record. Gregan closest challenger was Andrew Steel e of Great Britain who finished second in 46.32


Joanne Cuddihy (Kilkenny City Harriers AC) competed at the Znamensky Memorial in Russia. Cuddihy finished in second position in a time of 51.98, just behind the winner Lyudmila Litvinova of Russia 51.76.


Finally Steven Colvert (Crusaders AC) and Paul Hession (Athenry AC) were both back on track and competing in the 200m at the Norrvidden Sundsvall Wind Sprint event in Sweden. Colvert won the 200m in a time of 20.59 while Hession finished just behind in third place with a time of 20.87
