3 Irish Teams in Medal Races Tomorrow at Skandia Sail for Gold Regatta

08 Jun 2012

Conditions today in Weymouth made sailing for Day 5 of the Skandia Sail for Gold Regatta impossible. But that did not dampen the spirits of five of the Providence Resources Irish Olympic Sailors. Annalise Murphy in the Laser Radial, Peter O'Leary & David Burrows in the Star and Ryan Seaton & Matt McGovern in the 49er are all in the top 10 of their respective classes and therefore earn spots in tomorrow's medal races.

Gusts of between 35 and 55 knots meant that all racing was cancelled. O'Leary & Burrows remain in 3rd place, Murphy sits 5th overall and Seaton & McGovern are 10th. The medal races tomorrow will be worth double points so everything is still to play for.

ISA Performance Director James O'Callaghan remarked "It was a shame that racing was cancelled but the forecast is looking good for tomorrow and all teams are ready to race".

Ger Owens & Scott Flanigan in the 470 class finish the regatta in 1st place in the Silver Fleet while James Espey finished 4th in the Laser Silver Fleet. Paralympians John Twomey, Ian Costello and Anthony Hegarty in the Sonar class finish 12th overall.
