Britton Achieves Third Olympic Standard

Fionnuala Britton (Kilcoole AC) has achieved her third Olympic standard when she finished sixth in the 5000m in a time of 15:15.69 in Rabat, Morocco last night. Britton's time was well inside her previous best of 15:21.45 achieved in a mixed race last year. Britton now has Olympic standards for 5,000m, 10,000m and 3,000m steeplechase. Also in action was Ciara Mageean (U.C.D AC) who ran 4:13.10 to place eight in the 1500m. This was a seasonal best performance by Mageean, who is targeting the Olympic A standard of 4:06.00


At the Irish Milers Club meet in Greystones at the weekend Karl Griffin (Tir Chonaill AC) won the 800m in a time of 1:49.63, which was a new Irish Youth record. It was inside the previous record of 1:49.71 set by Mark English in 2010. The time was also inside the B standard for the World junior championships. *


Ireland's 4x400m women's relay team will compete in Bydgoszcz, Poland on Sunday, the 3rd of June. The squad includes Joanne Cuddihy, Clare Bergin, Marian Heffernan, Michelle Carey, Jessie Barr, Catriona Cuddihy and Sanura O'Reilly. The team are currently ranked in 12th position, with the top 16 teams qualifying for the Olympics.


Dan Mulhare (North Laois) is the sole Irish representative in the European Cup 10,000m in Bilbao, Spain on the 3rd of June.
