Minister Ring launches the 2012 National Finals

The Minister of State for Tourism & Sport Michael Ring TD officially launched the 2012 National Finals in Dublin.

At the launch Minister Ring said “The Community Games is one of Ireland’s most important organisations since its establishment in 1967 and I am delighted to be here to launch the 2012 Programme of Events.  The HSE Community Games partnership works to develop healthy communities in every corner of Ireland through participation in social, cultural and physical activities. I would like to place on record my recognition of and gratitude to, all the voluntary workers in the Community Games organisation who work so hard for sport.”

“We are excited to launch the 2012 National Finals and looking forward to welcoming all the participants and volunteers to the National Finals in May and August from all corners of Ireland. ” said Gerry Davenport, President, HSE Community Games.

Over 2,500 Children from 30 Counties will participate in Cultural and Sporting competitions including; Art, Model making, Chess, Choir, Cross Country, Draughts, Handball, Handwriting, Indoor Soccer, Relays, Table Tennis, and Talent competitions including disco dancing, Irish dancing, singing, music and comedy sketch. This represents the numerous Community Games activities that have been taking place in the local communities across Ireland throughout the year.

Athlone Institute of Technology President, Professor Ciarلn س Cathلin, said: "AIT is very much looking forward to hosting the HSE Community Games National Finals again this year. I have no doubt that 2012 will build on the successes achieved to date, in terms of the participant experience, their supporters and families, as well as the vast team of volunteers and organisers. The three weekends of the National Finals are now firmly established as a highlight in the Midlands calendar of events."
