Bronze Medal for Caroline Ryan at Track World Championships in Melbourne

05 Apr 2012

Ireland's Caroline Ryan won a superb Bronze Medal in the Points race at the Track World Championships Melbourne. Ryan rode very aggressively during the 100 lap 25km race. By gaining a lap on the field with three other riders she put herself in a good position to secure a high overall finish. Ryan then continued to ride strongly and by scoring some sprints points thus helping to secure the podium finish.

This performance continues the progression of results for Ryan over the past couple of years. She was fourth in her first individual pursuit at the Cali World Cup in 2010, then last year finished ninth in the same event at the world track championships in Holland. Her attention will now be on the Individual Pursuit event on Sunday.

Irish interest continues tomorrow with Martyn Irvine continuing his quest to secure his Olympic qualification when the Omnium event resumes. Irvine currently sits in 10th place overall after the first three events. Also in action is Shannon McCurley who rides in the Women's Scratch race.
