Following on from their 5-1 win yesterday v France Ireland recorded their second victory with a comprehensive 3-0 win against Russia a game in which Aine Connery was awarded her 50th cap. Ireland started well with chances in the first few minutes by Smyth & Jacob. They won their first corner of the game in the 15th minute but Harvey drag flew wide. Gray was called into action two minutes later saving a Russia cross into the circle. A strong run by McCay led to a PC which was converted by the Birthday Girl Michelle Harvey to give a deserved lead. Russia had good spell soon after but any chances were dealt by the irish defence. In the 33rd minute strong running by Speers resulted in the awarding of Ireland's 3rd penalty corner which was smothered by the Russian keeper resulting in another PC which this time was powered home by OFlynn to send Ireland 2-0 up at half time.

Ireland continued where the left off and 8 minutes into the half a shot by Jacob resulted in a penalty corner from which O Flynn fired into the top right corner and send Ireland 3-0 up. Ireland continued to create chances but could not extend their lead. Any Russian attack was dealt with by the Irish back four marshaled by McCarthy and Sargent. In the 63 minute good work in midfield by Emma Clarke lead to a turnover and Ireland earned their 5th short corner of the game but this time the Russian defence blocked the shot at goal. Ireland will be happy to have secured another 3 points and will have a rest day tomorrow before they face their 3rd game against Mexico on Tuesday at 12 noon (Irish Time)

Irish Coach Gene Muller said "Our corners were very good today and performed well overall and played with good structure and precision against a tricky opponent. The team are looking forward to a rest day tomorrow and on the back of two good wins."
